For New Membership applications: please email a copy of your CV to  membership@medicalwriters.org to support your application.

There are two membership categories offered by AMWA. Ordinary membership is open to any person who is a medical writer, journalist or editor in the media, including specialist publications, except a person whose sole work is directed to the promotion of a product or commercial organisations. Affiliate membership is open to any person who supports the aims of the association but who is not eligible for Ordinary membership or students and retirees who choose the discount.

Ordinary member

Eligibility: Any person whose main writing is as a medical writer, journalist or editor in any media, including specialist publications and online publications, EXCEPT those whose sole writing is promotional (see ‘Affiliate’).

Types of writing: Medical/health journalism, Technical writing, Academic writing, Journal editor

Employment: self-employed/freelance, health/medical publisher, academic publisher, government department, university, health peak body

Affiliate member

Eligibility: Any person who supports the aims of the association, but who is not eligible for the Ordinary Member category.

This includes:

·         writers whose sole work is directed to the promotion of a product or a commercial organisation

·         full-time students or retirees, if they choose to apply for a discounted membership fee

Ordinary member: entitles you to a free listing on the Freelance section of the AMWA website, access to the AMWA Mentor Program and AMWA PDP certificate and discounted member rates for the annual AMWA conference, workshops and seminars.  AMWA members are eligible to join the AMWA committee and have voting rights at the annual meeting. You will receive regular e-mail broadcasts and e-newsletter and AMWA Forum on Facebook

Affiliate member: entitles you to receive the AMWA newsletter and email broadcasts and to receive discounts for the annual AMWA conference, workshops and seminars

Please allow time for your membership to be processed. Membership applications are approved by the AMWA Executive Committee on the second Tuesday of each month. You will be notified in writing within a fortnight of that meeting.

To keep up to date with happenings in the field of medical writing in Australasia you will receive regular e-mail broadcasts and e-newsletter.
