Colin Brooks Memorial Lecture

Words in re-verse: Reflections on translating Yiddish women poets.

WHAT: Yiddish – English translation is like a mirror, where things appear the same, but are in fact reversed. The two languages are even written in reversed directions. Concepts, style and syntax vary greatly between the two languages, shaping writers’ thinking and creating challenges for translators. Join Hinde Ena Burstin as she will reflect on these challenges, focussing particularly on her work translating Yiddish women poets.
