About

The Science of ADHD & the six pillars of Health

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects executive functioning, emotional regulation, motivation, and behaviour. While commonly associated with inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, these traits represent only a small part of a much broader and more complex neurological profile.

This informative and engaging presentation provides a deeper understanding of ADHD and its impact across the lifespan. It explores both the scientific foundations of the condition and the lived experience of navigating a world designed primarily for neurotypical individuals.

In this talk, participants will learn about:

* What ADHD truly is from a neurological and psychological perspective
* Key differences between the ADHD brain and the neurotypical brain
* The role of dopamine, hormones, and reward pathways in ADHD
* Common behavioural patterns and emotional responses associated with ADHD
* The connection between ADHD and addiction
* The emotional highs and lows, including challenges with stress, self-esteem, and relationships
*Practical lifestyle strategies based on the six pillars of health (sleep, nutrition, exercise, mental wellbeing, connection, and purpose)
* How individuals with ADHD can improve focus, strengthen relationships, and harness their unique strengths for personal growth and success

Understanding ADHD is key to acceptance, adaptation, and effective management. Misconceptions often reduce ADHD to “poor focus” or “too much energy,” but this session reveals the deeper emotional, neurological, and behavioural layers that shape everyday experiences for those with ADHD.

About the Speaker – Andy Stone

Andy Stone, who has both ADHD and autism, shares his powerful personal journey of growing up undiagnosed, being expelled from school, struggling with drugs and alcohol, and attempting to function in a neurotypical world without adequate support. He discusses the strategies, mindset shifts, and education that have enabled him to rebuild his life and thrive.

Now over 10 years sober and a Guinness World Record holder for completing 70 triathlons in 75 days, Andy has dedicated his life to helping others with ADHD reclaim control of their lives and realise their potential. His hyperfocus has driven him to study ADHD extensively, and this talk incorporates the latest research and insights into neurodiversity, explained in a clear, relatable, and accessible way.

Andy currently mentors young people in alternative education centres and is the creator of an 8-part ADHD Wellness Course, where he peer-mentors individuals on how to work with their own ADHD rather than against it.

Inspiration and Career Pathways

This session also highlights well-known individuals with ADHD and explores how ADHD traits such as creativity, spontaneity, curiosity, and risk-taking can be powerful assets when channelled effectively. Participants are encouraged to think beyond traditional career paths and consider unconventional and purpose-driven opportunities.

Andy’s career as a professional shark diver—travelling the world and working in extreme environments—serves as a compelling example of how embracing neurodiversity can lead to extraordinary achievements. The talk includes real-world footage from his experiences.

Who Should Attend:

* Young people (ages 12+) and adults with ADHD
*Parents and carers seeking greater understanding and practical tools
* Educators and youth workers
* Anyone interested in neurodiversity and mental health

This talk is both educational and inspirational, offering science-based knowledge alongside lived experience. It empowers audiences to view ADHD not only as a challenge, but as a different way of thinking with unique strengths.

A dedicated question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.
