Caring for someone living with a mental illness -EOI Bendigo

The first Caring for Someone Living with Mental Illness sessions was held recently, and received excellent feedback from participants.Due to the positive response, further sessions will be scheduled in 2026.
This two-part workshop (2 × 2-hour sessions) was held in Bendigo and led by a Consultant Psychiatrist and a Mental Health Nurse.
Discussions were engaging and focused on practical ways to support carer wellbeing and resilience.
The sessions cover:
Self-care strategies and stress management
Recognising signs of stress and burnout
Setting boundaries
Sleep hygiene
Mindfulness techniques
Carer rights and available supports
Managing difficult emotions and maintaining balance
Creating a personal wellbeing plan and accessing local resources
Carer highlights included:
Learning about available services and new medications
Gaining reassurance and clarity from the psychiatrist regarding treatment and support options
Feeling connected through shared experiences and empathy within the group
Developing a stronger sense of confidence and empowerment to advocate for positive change in the mental health system
