YCSAG Sustainable Cooking Class - Online
Together we will prepare a delectable meal and delve into the problems with our current food system - food miles, transportation, packaging, globalization, economy and health. While eating our sustainable meal we will discuss what we can do to change our food habits to aid in the climate emergency.
Prior to the Cooking Class you will receive:
- An ingredients list, and you will need to go shopping before the class. For this class, it is BYO own ingredients. We will try to give you lots of options for various diets and keep cost low.
- Recipe cards with some basic food preparation that you will need to do before the class to keep us on time. For example, we will send a pizza dough recipe to be made before the class.
About the Youth Climate and Sustainability Action Group (YCSAG)
YCSAG is a group of young people who all share passion for the environment and like to support our local community to become more sustainable. We are the change makers in current climate crisis and use our knowledge and passion to help create a more sustainable community. Membership to the YCSAG is open to young people aged 13 to 25 who live, work or study in the City of Glen Eira.
About our Guest Speaker James McLennan
James lives and breathes environmental conservation, preservation and regeneration. He strives to promote environmental awareness and sustainable living through facilitation, inspiration, community engagement, experience and curiosity.
Over the last 15 years, James has dreamed, designed, developed and implemented education programs to engage people of all ages with their surrounding environment. James now runs his own business, Grassroots Sustainability, to reconnect people to the food cycle and to instil a greater understanding of how individuals, organisations, businesses and communities can implement sustainable practices.
About our Hosts Hannah Nishikubo and Talia Raman
Hannah has been a member of YCSAG for close to a year now. Her passion for the environment began when she was young, which is what lead her to participate in YCSAG in hopes to inspire positive environmental changes within Glen Eira. Hannah is a local Glen Eira citizen, and loves to bike ride where possible to minimise her carbon footprint! As a law student, Hannah is also interested in ways we can improve the laws to better protect the environment.
Talia has lived in Glen Eira her whole life and have also been a part of YCSAG for almost a year. Her passion for sustainability was ignited through her VCE geography studies! Talia is passionate about how we can be more sustainable within our households. Talia is also studying a pharmacy degree and she is enthused about learning how health care practitioners can be more environmentally friendly.
