Couple Art Therapy: Seeing Difference
Presented by Annette Coulter
Drawing processes provides an opportunity for couples to “see” thoughts and feelings differently. Encouraging expressive art tasks requires the couple to conceptualise differently. Art materials are usually less familiar and provide an experiential dimension.
Engaging creative processes enhances a potent visual reframing that increases spontaneity in couple work. They are also doing something practical together to enhance their relationship.
This presentation is based on Annette’s chapter, ‘Couple art therapy: ‘Seeing’ difference makes a difference’, in Couple Therapy in Australia: Issues Emerging from Practice, (eds) Elisabeth Shaw and Jim Crawley, (2007), PsychOz Publications.
