Midway To Nowhere
Australia, winter, 1952, and a group of New Australians, migrants from devastated post-war Europe, awaits release from the limbo of life in an Australian migrant camp. These include Greeks, Italians and Serbs. Recent rioters have burnt down camp buildings, triggering armoured intervention by the army. Powerless, the migrants wage war against the camp administration, each other and themselves. “Midway to Nowhere” relates a chapter in Australia’s history whose telling is well overdue.
