Bucharest founded in 1459 became the capital of Romania in 1862. It is the centre of Romanian media, culture, and art. It offers a splendid range of architecture gems that are a mix of historical (Neoclassical and Art Nouveau), interbellum (Bauhaus and Art Deco), communist era and modern. Such was the city’s standing was referred as 'Paris of the East'. The city has changed over the years, but much of the old fabric remains.
