“Shodo “in Japanese means Way of Writing - The Art dates back to the 6th century which requires calmness and discipline & is still practiced today by people of all ages and walks of life in Japan. Many people enjoy it as a practical and enjoyable hobby & display their works at exhibitions. Presenter, Emiko Mayer, started calligraphy at the age of six in Kyoto, Japan and qualified to teach Calligraphy before she moved to Australia.
At this session participants will be introduced to the important basics and different types of brush strokes Those strokes form 3 kinds of Japanese characters used today, Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana. Participants will practice writing words of their choice and work on ways to display their work. All materials are supplied. This session is suitable for beginners but those with some experience are also welcome.
