Talk - Tree growth influences in the Wombat Forest.
About
Temperate eucalypts have some of the highest carbon storage potential in the world, an essential component to global carbon storage and therefore atmospheric regulation. But little is known about their growth habits, as eucalypts have poorly defined growth rings, are very opportunistic, and occur in diverse climatic niches. Ella and Nina will present their research in the Wombat State Forest to understand how local rainfall, temperature and fire history interact with competition between trees to influence tree growth, how this varies by season, and importantly, how this varies between species.Ms Ella Plumanns-Pouton is a PhD candidate in the School of Ecosystem and Forests Sciences, University Melbourne.
Dr Nina Hinko-Najera is an ecosystem scientist within the School of Ecosystem and Forests Sciences. Nina manages the Wombat TERN-OzFlux tower site.
The talk will be followed by afternoon tea. We look forward to seeing you!
