SWIPE RIGHT (SOLD OUT)
Written by: Luke Johnson
Director: Mara Davis
Sex. Good or bad, frequent or infrequent, it makes the world go round. In Swipe Right, a group of private school boys log onto a porn site; a stand-up comedian gets heckled for telling sexually graphic jokes; two people swipe right on a dating app and meet for a one-night stand.
Luke Johnson’s adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s controversial 1897 play Reigen, performed by 3rd year students in the Bachelor of Performance and Theatre, gets to the heart of sex, dating, intimacy, and relationships in the 21st century. The ten interlocking vignettes in Swipe Right interrogate just how badly the promise of a sexual encounter can make us behave. Ultimately, the play asks: why does this promise seem to unleash the devil inside all of us?
