Fullers are delighted to collaborate with Beaker Street Festival to bring you a stellar line-up for a discussion surrounding Tasmanian nature and wilderness safety. What better way to learn more about how we can explore our magnificent back yard here in lutruwita, than from those who have braced storms, climbed mountain peaks, surfed some of the world's greatest waves, and documented their whole adventures for us? Most of us love to venture outdoors when opportunity strikes, but Tasmania's unpredictable and often ferocious weather can make it not only daunting, but a task to stay safe.
Paul, Piia, Adam and Marti will be chatting to Peter Marmion on their greatest explorations, closest near-misses with nature, research into local wilderness, and how we can respect the surroundings in which we seek adventure. There will be an audience Q&A followed by book sellings and signings.
Paul Helleman is the author of Fullers best-seller What Could Possibly Go Wrong. His forty-year career with Parks and Wildlife Tasmania has given him a unique perspective when capturing these true tales of tragedy in the Tasmanian bush. Adam Ouston is the director of Evercreech Editions and will be discussing his new novel Mine, in which a poet and defender of Tasmanian wilderness finds himself trapped down a mineshaft in the north-west mountain rainforest. Marti Paradisis is a Tasmanian big-wave surfer and the author of When the Ocean Awakens, an anthology of first-hand stories from surfers pursuing some of the most remote and treacherous waves on the planet. Piia Wirsu is an ABC reporter and author of Back From the Dead, narrating the story of the Blythe Star, a ship that left Hobart and sank off of the Tasmanian coastline in 1973. Peter Marmion is a Tasmanian adventure guide, naturalist, conservationist and author of Hidden Worlds, a photographic portrait of his fifty years of experience, research and adventure in this beguiling World Heritage area.
