In 2026, Maré Cheia marks a very special milestone: 15 years of Capoeira Australis in Perth.

Maré Cheia is the biggest event in our Capoeira Australis calendar. It is the one time each year when our students and the Capoeira community come together for masterclasses, workshops, rodas, batizado and cord changes.

We are opening selected training sessions to the wider Perth Capoeira community, giving Capoeiristas from all groups the opportunity to join us for two very special days of training.

Mestre China, our mentor from Capoeira de Valor Imbituba, will once again travel from Brazil to Perth to officiate Maré Cheia.

As part of the festival, he will lead a special 3-hour Masterclass for adults on Thursday 22 October.

We are also very excited to welcome Mestre Joguinho from Capoeira de Valor Campinas as our special guest for Maré Cheia 2026. Travelling from Brazil especially for the festival, Mestre Joguinho will lead a 3-hour adult workshop, as well as dedicated workshops for younger Capoeiristas, on Friday 23 October.

Capoeira Australis, Mestre China and Mestre Joguinho are all part of Capoeira de Valor, whose roots come through Cordão de Ouro, a lineage recognised for its technical quality, creativity, malícia, musicality and its close, fast and highly interactive game, including Jogo de Miudinho.

For Perth Capoeiristas, opportunities to spend this amount of time training directly with experienced Mestres travelling from Brazil don’t come around often. Across the two days, adults can access six hours of training, with three hours under the guidance of each Mestre.

We love to see as many capoeiristas from the Perth community as possible! Living in such an isolated city, it’s a rare gift for Capoeira students to train with interstate and international mestres. That’s why we’ve chosen to keep workshop prices affordable, so no one misses out on the chance to experience different styles, learn from great teachers, and be part of this unique opportunity right here in Perth.

Masterclass with Mestre China | Adults

22nd October - 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm - Capoeira Australis Studio

This session is a rare opportunity to train under the guidance of Capoeira Australis’s mentor and the leader of Capoeira de Valor Imbituba. Travelling all the way from Santa Catarina, Brazil, Mestre China is not only an extremely skilled Capoeira mestre but also a big-hearted teacher who inspires through presence and example.

In this 3-hour masterclass, you’ll enhance your skills, deepen your understanding of the art, and experience the unique style and values of Capoeira de Valor.

Special Guest Workshop with Mestre Joguinho

23rd October - Scarborough Community Centre > Kids (3yo to 6yo) - 4 pm to 5 pm> Kids (7yo to 13 yo) - 5 pm to 6 pm> Adults - 6 pm to 9 pmMestre Joguinho was formed under Mestre Cícero and comes from the Cordão de Ouro lineage, one of the most influential lineages in contemporary Capoeira. He brings extensive experience developed through many years of Capoeira and teaching around the world. Known for his strong technical knowledge and musicality, he is today an important reference within Capoeira de Valor and was the first white-cord Mestre formed by Mestre Cícero.

Grand Event Day24th October - 1 pm to 6 pm - Laguna Club Wa (Dianella) 

The festival culminates in our Grand Event on Saturday 24 October, a day to celebrate the achievements of our Capoeiristas, share the roda and come together for our 15-year celebration.
