About
Dear Families,
Trigger warning: This communication contains information relating to childhood sexual abuse.
On Wednesday, 2 September (6pm-8pm), we are hosting Body Safety Australia to deliver a two-hour practical workshop designed to empower families with body-safety tools and strategies that can be used within the home.
The workshop will provide families with information about childhood sexual abuse, associated risks and common myths, as well as practical guidance to help adults become strong advocates for children’s safety. The session will cover topics including:
- recognising grooming behaviours
- supporting children to develop body-safety skills
- online safety
- image autonomy and consent
- practical ways families can create safe and open conversations at home.
The session will be delivered online, allowing families to join from home. Places online are limited to 50 participants, and tickets are essential. https://www.trybooking.com/au/event/1631666
For families who would prefer to attend in person, we will also be streaming the session from Kardinia in the Multi-Purpose Room. Attendance for in-person does not require a ticket.
We recognise that this is an important and potentially sensitive topic. Chaplaincy support will be available the following day for families who may wish to talk through the content, ask questions or debrief following the session.
We encourage families to take up this opportunity to build their confidence and knowledge in supporting children’s safety, both online and offline.
