A series of practical, hands-on workshops for dietitians of all levels of experience in managing enteral feeding in a community setting. Suitable for new grads, those new to community dietetics, or anyone who's been out of the field for some time and needs a refresher.
Our workshops are designed to help you feel genuinely confident with enteral nutrition in the real-world - all workshops are interactive, utilising case studies, practical activities, live demonstrations and plenty of time for questions for our experienced presenters.
All presenters have extensive experience in community enteral feeding, with some having a background in hospital settings, giving a holistic view of the continuum of care between inpatient, outpatient and community care.
Day 1 - Enteral Nutrition in the Community
Time: 9am - 5pm
An introductory course in community enteral nutrition, covering a vast range of topics:
- The basics of enteral feeding - a brief refresher
- Types of tubes and how to indentify them
- How a dietitian supports decision-making for enteral feeding
- Choosing feeding methods and formula
- Monitoring and ongoing support
- Working with the multidisciplinary team
- Documenting an enteral feeding plan appropriately
- Working with manufacturers and distributors
- Quoting and reporting for NDIS
- Enteral feeding pump demonstrations
- An introduction to stoma care by an experienced nurse
This workshop will be presented by Jennifer Craft (APD) and Jacqueline Delaney (APD) - both with over 12 years of experience in enteral feeding. Our guest presenter for stoma care will be an experienced nurse from GainEd Nursing.
Day 2 - Paediatric Enteral Feeding (morning)
Time: 9am - 12.30pm
A more in depth-look at the specifics of enteral feeding in the paediatric population, covering:
- Specific feeding considerations for paediatrics
- Troubleshooting common problems with paediatric enteral feeds
- Choosing appropriate feeding methods
- Formula choice and manipulations including how to concentrate formulas, and using additives
- Commencing feeding regimens in the community
- Tube weaning
- Managing responsibilities between the hospital and community settings
This workshop will be presented by Leah Thomas (APD, IBCLC) and Aimee McLeod (Adv. APD) - each with over 14 years of experience in enteral feeding specifically in children with special needs.
Day 2 - Demystifying Blended Tube Feeds (afternoon)
Time: 1pm - 4.30pm
An overview and practical considerations of blended tube feeds for adults and paediatrics, including:
- Review of the evidence, policies and practice guidelines for BTF
- Discussing common misconceptions of BTF
- Decision-making for supporting BTF in your practice
- Commencing BTF safely and effectively in kids and adults - feeding methods and regimens
- Monitoring, troubleshooting and seeking help
This workshop will be presented by Jennifer Craft (APD) and Aimee McLeod (Adv. APD) - all presenters have experience with and regularly support clients with BTF.
Please note: Workshop 1 must be completed before Workshops 2 & 3 for those with entry-level knowledge.
