About
Held during National Child Protection Week, this special community event celebrates the voices of Kwinana children and the launch of a new resource co-designed with local children to support conversations about safety. The resource has been developed to help adults better understand where children feel safe, what contributes to their sense of safety and belonging, and what we can do as a community to help children feel safer.
This event will bring together community leaders, educators, service providers, government representatives, families and advocates to hear directly what children have told us about safety and belonging, and how we can turn those insights into meaningful action.
About the Event
During the afternoon, we will:
- Launch a new resource co-designed with Kwinana children.
- Share stories from the co-design journey and the perspectives of the children involved.
- Explore what children told us about safety in their community.
- Reflect on what we learned about engaging meaningfully with children and young people.
- Launch the Seen, Safe, Heard - Kids Safety Book and the Child Engagement Framework.
- Introduce the next steps in our collective journey towards creating a child-safe and child-friendly community.
We are honoured to welcome Dr Jacqueline McGowan-Jones, Commissioner for Children and Young People WA, as our keynote speaker. Dr McGowan-Jones' leadership in championing children's rights and participation reflects the spirit of this initiative and the importance of ensuring children's voices inform the decisions that affect them. We are also pleased to welcome Peter Feasey, Mayor of Kwinana, whose ongoing support highlights the collective responsibility we share in building a child-safe and child-friendly community.
