About
Sector Support & Development (SSD) at Latrobe Community Health Service, in partnership with Gippsland Multicultural Services and Central Gippsland Health Service, warmly invites you to join us for a meaningful morning of cultural learning, connection, storytelling and hands-on cultural activities.
This SSD-provided session has been created as an opportunity for local CHSP providers, colleagues, community partners and other relevant staff to come together, learn and strengthen our understanding of Aboriginal culture and culturally respectful practice.
The session will be facilitated by the YAWA Network and will provide participants with opportunities to learn through shared experiences, cultural activities, storytelling and hands-on craft.
What to expect
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about Aboriginal culture, traditions and cultural practices.
- Take part in Indigenous jewellery making using traditional and natural materials.
- Experience demonstrations and learning around Indigenous instruments, including didgeridoo and clap sticks.
- Participate in ochre hand painting.
- Connect through storytelling, discussion and shared experiences.
- Contribute to the development of a community/memorial artwork, which will be gifted back to Latrobe Community Health Service as a lasting acknowledgement of the day and the learning shared.
We are also honoured to welcome Uncle (Lloyd Hood), who will commence the session with a Welcome to Country.
A day of learning, connection and community
This session is an opportunity to come together in a culturally respectful environment, build connections and consider how we can continue to strengthen culturally safe and respectful practices across our work and services.
Catering will be provided.
Places are limited, so we encourage you to register early to secure your place.
We look forward to welcoming you and sharing a meaningful morning of cultural learning, connection and community.
Please note: This session is intended as a respectful learning and connection opportunity. Participants are encouraged to come with an open mind, listen, ask questions respectfully and engage thoughtfully throughout the day.
