Dr Storkey will take us beyond the trend to explore cacao’s rich history and traditional use in Peru, what distinguishes ceremonial-grade cacao, and what modern science is revealing about its unique biochemical properties.
We’ll also discover the story of Peruvian maca — its traditional uses, different varieties and preparations, and the research being conducted into its distinctive compounds and potential benefits.
Dr Storkey brings more than 15 years of academic and research experience, including a PhD in medicinal chemistry from the University of Melbourne and the Heart Research Institute in Sydney. He currently leads a New Zealand-based research program investigating Andean and Amazonian plant medicines, including biochemical research into Peruvian maca and ceremonial cacao.
