Open Garden

Step through the gates of Orana, a beautifully restored 1904 Queen Anne Federation home set on 1,670m² in Camberwell's historic Tara Estate, and discover one of Melbourne's most captivating private gardens. After years of neglect, new owners in 2002 reimagined the grounds from the ground up, retaining only the mature trees - including a striking Jacaranda, Liquid Amber, Arbutus, Olive and Magnolia Grandiflora - while introducing lush, curving borders of English-style cottage planting.

Wander through a series of distinct garden rooms: a secluded fish pond and fountain framed by camellias and a large rhododendron, an outdoor paved area, shaded by a pergola draped in an ornamental grapevine, a Japanese-style garden with a tiled spa and waterfall, and an archway of the rambling rose 'Crepuscule'. Notice the play of light through selective cloud pruning and the creative addition of an newly developed elevated fruit orchard to replace the retired labyrinth. A circular potager rounds out this richly layered garden, now matured into its own quietly spectacular character.
