The Runner is a short film developed by Think Village as part of the Victorian Government’s Anti-Gang Grooming and Exploitation initiative.

The film follows Zac, a teenager who is lured into completing a seemingly simple task before being gradually drawn into organised criminal activity. As the demands escalate, Zac becomes trapped through coercion, threats and increasingly serious offending.

The film creates an opportunity to explore how criminal grooming happens, how young people can be targeted and exploited, and how families and communities can recognise the signs and respond early.

Following the screening, Think Village will facilitate a conversation with VBCWN members about what we are seeing and hearing in our communities and what young people, families and communities need to prevent and respond to criminal grooming and exploitation.

Together, we will:

- Learn more about criminal grooming and exploitation and how it can happen.
- Share concerns, experiences and perspectives from our communities.
- Explore what young people, parents and families need to recognise the signs and respond early.
- Help shape culturally relevant and accessible information, resources and future training.

Bicultural workers and community leaders have an important role to play in this conversation. Your knowledge of the strengths, concerns and realities of your communities can help ensure future resources and approaches are relevant to young people and families from refugee and migrant communities.

Come along to watch, learn, share your perspectives and help shape what comes next.

And please stay and join us for lunch afterwards!
