About
Welcome to Storytelling through Song: a school holiday workshop presented by the Australian Pop Academy, facilitated by Melbourne-based Musical Theatre performer, Taao Buchanan 🎶
Deepen your connection to character and story in this musical theatre workshop focused on developing authentic performance through song!
Join acclaimed performer & educator Taao Buchanan for a fun, practical and inspiring class designed to help young performers transform a beautiful song into a compelling story. Through group activities and individual coaching, students will have the opportunity to experiment with different choices and receive professional direction, unlocking the magical moments when a character sings because words simply aren't enough!
The workshop also includes an introduction to professional audition technique, including preparing an effective 60-90 second audition cut, an invaluable opportunity for young performers considering auditioning for a tertiary education in theatrical performance (WAAPA, NIDA etc.)
Taao Buchanan is a professional musical theatre performer, actor and educator, with both a Diploma and Bachelor's Degree in Musical Theatre from WAAPA. Her recent professional credits include 'Follies' with the Victorian Opera, 'Carousel in Concert' at Melbourne's Princess Theatre, and the Australian feature film 'He Ain’t Heavy'. Having also facilitated holiday workshops at WAAPA for many years, Taao is passionate about helping young performers build confidence and discover their own voice. She is a qualified dance teacher and trained singing educator, with a strong focus on creating fun, supportive and low-pressure learning environments.
BRING A SONG YOU LOVE: Students should come to this workshop with a song prepared (preferably musical theatre) that they enjoy singing and would like to work on. It doesn't need to be a perfect audition piece, any song they're excited to explore is ideal!
AGE RANGE: This workshop is for young performers aged 13+ and is open to all skill levels and abilities.
PLACES ARE LIMITED, BOOK EARLY TO SECURE YOUR SPOT.
