About
'A red headed little firebrand '
Margaret Preston was a bold, independent artist who championed modern Australian art, Aboriginal art forms, and domestic creativity from her Sydney home between the World Wars.
As a young woman travelling through Europe at the turn of the 20th century, she experienced the birth of European modernism firsthand—a movement that profoundly shaped her vibrant still lifes, landscapes, and iconic views of Sydney Harbour.
Coinciding with the retrospective of her work at the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, this talk explores the motivations and inspiration behind Preston's distinctive style.
Digby Smyth is a member of the Friends of MPRG Committee and a passionate student of Preston’s work. Join us for a lively and engaging discussion on one of Australia’s most pioneering creative figures.
