In our final concert for the year we showcase music inspired by the nativity. English composer Howard Blake, best known for his film scores, shows his gift for melody in his Four Songs of the Nativity. Respighi’s Lauda per la Natività del Signore for soloists, choir, woodwind and piano is a beautiful pastoral cantata depicting the birth of Jesus. Respighi expertly blends madrigals and plainchant with vivid and colourful harmony. A rare opportunity to hear this masterful work!
