MSK Pain in Children and Adolescents
Presenter: Dr Jane Munro
Arthritis and musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions are not just conditions of older age – they affect people of all ages, including children. The conditions generally last a lifetime and impose a substantial personal burden to children and their families and the broader community attributed to the profound impacts of pain, activity limitation and impaired psychosocial wellbeing. Approximately 1% of Australian children (approx. 22,000 people) suffer with juvenile arthritis. A much larger proportion of children and adolescents experience persistent MSK pain, for example 20% report chronic low back pain of which 80% actively seek care. This webinar will provide a practical overview of different types of MSK pain presentations in children and adolescents using a case-based approach including strategies for optimally managing pain.
