AS IF:Public art walk 1 - Penelope Lee
AS IF: Artist walk with Penelope Lee
Penelope Lee begins the walk at her sculpture (created with Susan Hewitt) Great Petition.
Penelope Lee will launch the FREE AS IF: Public art walks series at The Great Petition, an artwork that was created with Susan Hewitt in 2008 to mark the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage. This work is a contemporary reading of the Monster Petition – a petition of over 30,000 signatures that was delivered to the Victorian Parliament in 1891 as evidence of the widespread support for equal voting rights for women. Heading south, Penelope will move onto the artworks of two remarkable Australian/European artists who have made significant contributions to Melbourne’ art scene - the radiant mural of Mirka Mora at Flinders Street Station and Inge Kings’s Forward Surge at the Victorian Art Centre.
