West End Sessions presents: The Barleyshakes
SATURDAY 16th JULY 2016
The West End Sessions present: The Barleyshakes.
Brewed in Ireland and distilled in Australia the Barleyshakes are a Celtic band with world music influences who combine intense energy, beautiful harmony and driving dance rhythms in their live performances. Adored throughout Australia and beyond for their “bent” Irish sound, they are winners of the Queensland Music Award for World Music, and are favourites at Woodford Folk Festival. They join us on their way to a European tour www.barleyshakes.com
The West End Sessions is an alcohol-free, all-ages, listening room in Brisbane. Tea/coffee and snacks available for a gold coin donation. We are located right in the middle of the cafe/restaurant precinct - so why not book for dinner before or after the show?
Opening the show are locals - Tin Star.
Tin Star deliver stripped back acoustic music that splits the difference between pop/rock and folksy Americana, featuring Penny Boys (The Poachers) on vocals, Cathy Bell (Spot the Dog, The Poachers, Jeremiah) on vocals, fiddle, accordion, and Dan Grant (Jeremiah, Doubting Thomas) vocals and guitar.
Penny's deft, evocative vocals combined with Dan's bold and unabashed vocal delivery, Cathy’s ripping fiddle over bare-bones instrumentation and strong three-part harmonies set this group apart. Leaping from one genre to another in a set, Tin Star count Gillian Welch, Steve Earle, Brandi Carlisle, The Decemberists, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits and Elton John as influences.
