Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, based on traditional Gregorian chant, was written in homage to Gabriel Fauré’s exquisite setting of the Mass for the Dead. Our performance of Duruflé’s 1948 version for choir, soloists, cello and organ is complemented by miniature masterpieces by other composers including Fauré’, Bruckner, J.S.Bach (his so-called seventh motet), and Australian composer Calvin Bowman, who is performing with the choir both in Melbourne and on our forthcoming European tour (Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic).
