Dance for Young People with Disability – Brisbane

The Butterfly Effect Project is a one-of-a-kind creative arts initiative dedicated to improving the lives of children and young people of all abilities across the globe. Focusing on dance, music and mindfulness to enhance personal development, relationships, social skills and community, The BEP aims to improve the livelihood, health, wellbeing and happiness of its Butterflies through its fun, interactive and transformative arts classes.

This dance program is perfect for you/your child if you/they want to:

  • have loads of fun;
  • enhance your health and happiness;
  • improve physical, cognitive, intellectual, mental and sensory development;
  • improve learning difficulties, such as autism and mental/behavioural conditions;
  • improve the use of arms, fingers, feet, legs, mobility and overall motor ability;
  • experience a new and exciting activity;
  • experience therapeutic movement, music and play;
  • find calm and emotional wellbeing;
  • feel fulfilled, inspired and a sense of personal freedom;
  • be part of a nurturing environment with experienced and loving arts facilitators;
  • improve communication and social skills;
  • improve personal independence, confidence and self-esteem;
  • meet new people;
  • make long-lasting friendships;
  • defy limits; and
  • heal from the inside-out.

*This program is appropriate for Young People with disability aged 15–25 years old.

  • Please note: If all spots have been filled, you will be put on the waiting list (in which case we may book another dance class at a later time, depending on numbers.)

*For Butterflies whom require high-level support, we request a support worker or caretaker join in the fun with us.

Program Perks:

  • Week 4: Disney Day – Come dressed as your favourite comic book or Disney character!
  • Week 8: Family Jam – For our final class, we have a mini party to celebrate your dance evolution! Friends and family invited to join in on the fun through dancing, playing and watching our final performance.
  • Special Performance Opportunity: On Friday 20 October. at the Lady Cliento Children’s Hospital in South Brisbane, our very special Butterfly (Freya Toussaint) is celebrating the 2nd Birthday of her and her mum’s amazing Toy Stall, “Thinking Of You.” We invite all participants to be part of this special performance (9:15 AM–10:45 AM) which will use the routine we’ve been learning in class. This is a non-compulsory activity (but highly recommended!)

Special information:

  • Parking is available in front of the venue but can get full – in case of no parking, please find spaces along the street or up the road.
  • Burke Street Train Station is a 1-minute walk around the corner from the venue – we recommend taking the train in case of limited parking
