Art and Activism: Woodcut Foot Prints

This month, we're inviting all types of change makers to participate in a workshop at the intersection of art and activism: a skill share on making woodcut prints. Woodcut is a simple, cheap and fun printmaking technique. It has a long history of being used by activist-artists to create political images. Creative activism is becoming an increasingly popular method of action, and art making can be therapeutic and community building as well!

In this workshop, participants can create their own woodcut prints and then print them by using their feet to ‘dance’ on the fabric and make a print. We will use a lot of alternative materials, so activists can use this skill easily and cheaply ongoing for their own purposes. You don't need to be an artist to enjoy this workshop, it is aimed at beginners and promises to be lots of fun!

This is the 7th Activist Wellbeing Workshop organised by Plan To Thrive, and will be facilitated by local activist-artist UB. UB is a community artist who is focused on participatory processes of collaborative creativity. She studied printmaking at University, and has since organised community art projects at CERES Environmental Park, City Library, Federation Square and so on. You can find her work here: www.ubtopia.net

* Please note workshop places are limited to 20 participants so get in quick. Booking price includes materials cost of $10 per person (materials include: wood blocks, inks, rollers, paper, knives and etc.)
