Nairobi to Sydney!
NAIROBI TO SYDNEY!
We are thrilled to announce that we’ll be bringing our two main Kenyan teachers, Celine & Joseph to Sydney for 2 weeks in November! They’ll be staying with us (a bit of a squish but we’ll be fine!) and you can help us get them here – read on!
We currently employ 4 Kenyan AMS teachers who deliver FREE AMS classes to 300+ children ages 3-12 each week. The children we teach are the poorest of the poor, living in the slums of Kibera & Korogocho.
Celine & Joseph grew up in Korogocho and have been with us since the beginning of our Nairobi program. We first visited in April 2015 and trained them in the AMS preschool courses and organised their employment at a Kindergarten on the fringe of Kibera.
We’ve been back to Nairobi several times since then, developing their teaching, watching their classes & organising more work opportunities for them – and in April, ran our first AMS CAMP in Kenya! We keep in touch with them weekly via email and whattsapp - they film their classes and we give suggesstions and support.
We are at a point where Joseph & Celine really need to see AMS ‘in action’ here in Sydney. Long distance training has its limitations ....
So here they come!
They will be viewing experienced teachers with groups of all ages & abilities and learning how to structure classes and run a small business – all with the view to developing the AMS program in Nairobi and eventually, running their own music schools.
We're having a ‘getting to know you / Q & A’ session for AMS families – they’ll be interviewed and you’ll learn some more about their lives. They'll also be teaching us some Kenyan song & dance! SUNDAY NOVEMBER 19 at AMS RANDWICK - More info to follow.
Would you like to help? You can – by contributing to their flight costs. There are $30 and $60 options – we appreciate every single donation! Just click on the 'book now' button on this page.
Thank you for reading and for your ongoing support.
