KXT 5 PACK - 2017
AMERICAN BEAUTY SHOP by Dana Lynn Formby.
AUGUST 25 - SEPTEMBER 16. Wednesday - Saturday at 7:30pm. Sundays 5pm.
It’s hard to pull yourself up by your bootstraps in this economy - Sue should know. It’s harder when you’ve got kids, even whip-smart, talented ones like Judy. Sue has big dreams for both her basement beauty shop and her daughter, who’s anxiously waiting for a letter from Berkeley that could change her life. Armed with tough love, combative humour and an uncompromising work ethic, Sue is struggling to balance her own livelihood and Judy’s future. American Beauty Shop is a heartfelt play about the true cost of dreams.
Directed by Anna McGrath. With Charmaine Bingwa, Caitlin Burley, Jill McKay Amanda Stephens Lee, Janine Watson. Presented by Some Company.
PUNTILA / MATTI by Tobias Manderson Galvin, after Brecht.
SEPTEMBER 22 - OCTOBER 14. Tuesday to Saturday at 7:30pm. Sundays at 5pm.
A troubling, terrifying, and entertaining performance work responding to class, conflict, and changing technologies. Set between whisky-soaked limo rides, on the set of a Bachelorette-style show called ‘Eligibility’, and in shady world-leader meetings in underground car-parks, Puntila/Matti is satirical, anti-capitalist, and every bit as funny as it is bleak.
Directed by Tobias Manderson-Galvin. With Tobias Manderson Galvin, Dr Tom Payne, Antoinette Barbouttis. Presented by MKA | Theatre of New Writing and Doppelgangster.
SHE RODE HORSES LIKE THE STOCK EXCHANGE by Amelia Roper
OCTOBER 20 - NOVEMBER 11. Tuesday - Saturday at 7:30pm. Sundays at 5pm.
In a nice park, in a nice city, two nice couples try very, very hard to be nice to each other while the sound of ice cream trucks (wait, no) ambulances (nope!) the Global Financial Crisis screams into town. She Rode Horses Like the Stock Exchange is an absurdly funny and terrifying ride through a downsized, foreclosed nation. This is a fresh new play about gender expectations, possession and loneliness, money and ego. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Spend all your money on ice cream. IT’S A BEAUTIFUL DAY
Directed by Nell Ranney. With Lucy Goleby, Tom Mesker, Matilda Ridgway. Presented by Sign of the Acorn.
