WRITING ON THE WALL fundraising launch
You are warmly invited to join us in a special
The launch of Writing on the Wall chapbook ... an experiment in poetry-driven social activism
The poem is a modern epic, drawing on two and half thousand years of slavery; an uplifting imagined story of one slave’s journey to freedom.
"Community awareness of slavery in Australia is low, and many people are shocked that it exists at all here, but its occurrence is considerable." From the essay by Professor Jennifer Burn, Anti Slavery Australia.
The chapbook includes Professor Burn' s essay about modern slavery, reflections by Anne Carson about the writing of the poem, and the poem itself. All event and publishing costs have been donated - proceeds from the launch and all book sales will be donated to ASA.
Tickets include wine/soft drink, nibbles, a copy of the chapbook and the reading of the poem (by Julian Bailey).
Ticket prices are on a sliding scale from $10 - $100 according to means. Please be generous in your support of
Anti Slavery Australia, who are working towards ending slavery.
Even if you can't attend the event you can make a donation to ASA through the Book Now button on this page. http://www.antislavery.org.au/
