40 Years since last VR Passenger Train to Daylesford
September 16th 2017 will mark 40 years since the last VR passenger train departed Daylesford, marking the end of nearly a century of passenger services to the local community.
Join us for a recreation of that last service to and from Daylesford. A regular to the Daylesford line in VR days, restored 280hp Walker Rail Motor 91RM will operate two return services throughout the day, recreating the arrival and departure of the last rail motor service on the line.
The first train departs Daylesford at 10:00am and returns when the last VR service arrived at 11:15am. The second train will depart Daylesford at 14:10 and will be a re-enactment of the final VR passenger service as far as Bullarto, right down to the 1977 timetable! This will return to Daylesford at 15:40.
During the break between the two trains at Daylesford, a BBQ lunch will be provided at the station plus we will be having guided tours of the restoration shed and an inspection of 32RM, which is nearing the completion of its extensive restoration.
Also included in the day will be photo stops at various locations as well as one of 91RM crossing the East Street bridge for the final time, with the bridge due to be decommissioned the following day for replacement with the new structure.
Tickets are $40 per adult, $35 for seniors and $30 for children under 16. Included in the fare is two return trips from Daylesford to Bullarto and a BBQ lunch.
