It’s All In The Mind: Practical Psychology of learning and teaching
With Mark Hooper
Saturday 17 February 2018 3.30pm to 5pm
Having taught piano, recorded and performed for over 20 years, I did a Masters degree in Psychotherapy in London, UK. I was amazed at how much what I was learning was not only relevant, but pivotal to my experiences as a pianist and teacher. Often it’s feelings and dynamics, sometimes unrecognised or worked with, which will determine the pupil’s and teacher’s future relationship with ‘music’ and each other. I’ve got lots to explain to you with lots of practical examples and ways to have an even richer experience with your pupils.
Mark Hooper is a graduate of the Qld Conservatorium and Royal College of Music, London. He taught piano at Oxford University for 6 years. In Oxford he ran courses teaching piano teachers how to teach especially young children. He also supervised local piano teachers and has extensive experience teaching adults. Since being back in Brisbane, after 34yrs abroad, Mark taught Pedagogy to the piano students at the Conservatorium. Each year he travels to the UK to give concerts.
