House Concert - Andrey Lebedev & Lotte Betts-Dean
Both these exciting artists are already much travelled, hailing from Australia but now settled in London. Together they have performed across the UK including the Buxton International Festival, praised by the Guardian as "an unexpected highlight… an irrepressible sense of drama and extraordinary self-assurance". The pairing of Mezzo-Soprano with Guitar has produced a programme full of exquisite delicacy, combining music from four composers all of whom have an exceptional innate sympathy with both guitar and the voice. Both artists share a passion for breaking boundaries across repertoire, which is both refreshing and inspirational. This programme features the Australian premiere of “Gertrude Fragments” by Brett Dean, written for Lotte and Andrey, inspired by the composer's recent opera Hamlet.
The programme also includes Dowland lute songs arranged for voice and guitar, Britten Folksong settings for voice and guitar, Britten Songs from the Chinese, Guitar solos by Albeniz, Falla, and Dean, and Manuel de Falla's Canciones Populares Espanolas.
Limited seating for 50 guests in a lovely home with a performance space and comfortable seating. The performance will begin at 6pm and will be followed by a dinner and drinks (provided) and a chance to mingle.
Hosts Bill and Libby want to offer opportunities for Canberra audiences to share their passion for the classical guitar, its varied and interesting repertoire and for the very high level of talent present in the region.
