Anactoria (alter-ego of Candelo singer/songwriter/harpist Tamlyn Magee) will launch her debut EP on Friday, 11th May supported by Candelo legends David Ross-Macdonald and Kate Burke in the cosy comfort of the General Store Cafe. Entitled Twentythree, the new record captures five years worth of song-writing, and showcases the development of an intrinsically unique musical style. Produced by award-winning producer and electronic musician Dave Crowe (Resin Moon), it features an all-star cast of Alice Springs creatives who lend lush string, percussion and synth sounds to intricate harp and vocal arrangements.
About the live show: A current of electric harp runs underneath thoughtful lyrics within the unique arrangements of Anactoria’s original songs. Embellished by elegant but earthy effects and, for the first time ever, live percussion and strings, the songs take on a life of their own. "Simultaneously plucking her harp strings and the heart-strings of her audience, Anactoria is a fierce, yet gentle force... In my ten years of touring the country, I have not yet seen or heard anything like the unique magic she possesses. She crafts and presents her material as if channeling a beautiful and ethereal force.” Candice McCleod.
Also not to be missed, David Ross MacDonald will open the evening. Acoustic Guitar Magazine likened MacDonald’s vocals, lyrics, and intricate fingerstyle guitar style to “a collaboration between Nick Drake and a mid-1970s Bruce Cockburn”. Ross deals in subtlety, intimacy and nuance with a tunesmiths hand that coins songs and music with a haunting and poignant quality.
The General Store Cafe will be serving drinks and exquisite snacks from 6pm. Music starts at 7.30pm - be early to get a good seat!
