Member, National Native Title Tribunal
9.30 to 12:00 Tuesday, 5 June 2018
Relationships Australia’s national team is delighted to announce a free community event that may of interest to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, dispute resolution practitioners, mediators, lawyers, community leaders, restorative practitioners and others.
Please join us for a cup of tea and a chat at 9.30, Tuesday, 5 June 2018 to meet our speaker, Helen Shurven.
Helen’s presentation will begin at 10am and it will be followed up by panel discussion on long-term, complex mediations.
Helen will outline some of her experience in mediating Native Title disputes, including differences between two party and multi-party matters, as well as considering telephone mediation and special considerations that can be taken into account when mediation is not in a face to face context.
Helen will touch on some skills based information, including the process of co-mediation, as well as tips and traps for mediators and party advisors. Helen will reflect on mediated outcomes and contrast the process of agreement-making through mediation with her experience in making arbitral decisions that are final and binding on all parties.
The seminar will count as 2.5 hours of Continuing Professional Development for mediators. Please register to ensure you have a seat at the event. We are limited to a maximum of 85 people.
We look forward to seeing you there.
