C J La Trobe Society and RHSV present the A G L Shaw lecture

Major General Michael O'Brien, historian & author, will talk about his research into the life of politician Hugh Culling Eardley Childers. Michael will discuss Childers' roles in Victoria's Legislative Council from 1852 until he returned to England in 1857, & his influence in the establishment of both the University of Melbourne & the Melbourne Public Library. Also examined will be Childers' British political life as First Lord of the Admiralty, Chancellor of the Exchequer & Home Secretary.
