The world is in turmoil. The Trump presidency in the United States has launched repeated attacks on the rights of workers and the poor, accelerated the transfer of wealth to the coddled ultra-rich and corporations, further legitimised open bigotry and facilitated the growth of the fascist far right. Aggression and the spectre of war loom large on the global stage, and around the world ordinary people continue to pay the cost of the 2007 global economic crisis with austerity, unemployment and vicious anti-refugee racism. The need to rebuild a socialist left to challenge the status quo is urgent.
Socialism Perth aims to bring together people who want to understand the world in order to change it. The conference provides a much needed forum to discuss socialist ideas, radical history and key questions in left wing politics. The weekend will feature over a dozen sessions on Marxist theory, gender, racism, the far right, and imperialism.
There’s something for every left wing person. For those new to socialist politics, a dedicated stream of Marxism 101 sessions will provide an introduction to the core ideas of Marxism. These sessions are the best environment to find out what Marxist politics are all about and to answer any questions you might have. The conference also celebrates the history of struggles by workers and the oppressed and discusses the lessons they hold for anyone wanting to change the world today. With three concurrent sessions running in each time slot, Perth’s budding (and experienced) radicals will be spoiled for choice!
