2018 AUSTA Q String Festival and Concerto Competition
Description

No matter whether your child is a beginner or more advanced (and some will have just learnt to play open strings!) AUSTA Q String Festival (formerly Junior Strings Festival) offers them the opportunity to perform a solo accompanied by a professional accompanist in front of a small, supportive audience of family, friends and peers. They will receive a constructive, encouraging adjudication report from one of AUSTA’s many teachers and also a fabulous, shiny trophy to take home!

Strings Festival  

 

Date

In 2018 all sessions will be run on Sunday, 5 August

(Note: all students play in their academic school year, not AMEB grade)  

Entry Fee 

$25 (incl. GST) + try booking fees (30c)

Please note, entries close June 28th.

 

Please note you only have to buy tickets for performing students. Observers can buy tickets at the door on the day of the performance; $2 per person.   

 

Time Limit

Strictly 5 minutes (performers may play more than one piece)

 

Trophies

Each performer will receive a trophy and report.  

Accompanist

Professional accompanists are provided as a festival service. Performers are welcome to organise their own accompanist if preferred.

 

Performance Time

Please note that students will be assigned a one hour time slot between 9am and 5pm for their performance on this day.  Performers will be notified their time by Wednesday the 18th July. 

 

 
Concerto Competition

Elementary (30 applicants)

Intermediate (25 applicants)

Senior (20 applicants)

 

Observers can buy tickets at the door on the day of the performance ($2 per person). 

 

Age Limit

School aged students.

  

Time Limit

Strictly 10 minutes or one concerto movement

 

Trophies

Each performer will receive a trophy and report. First, second and third place winners will receive place trophies and prize money - $100, $75, $50.

 

Sections

 In 2018 there will be three updated sections of the concerto competition.

Elementary - Grade 3-4 AMEB (or equivalent)
Intermediate - Grade 5-7 AMEB (or equivalent) 

Grade 8, Advanced - AMEB Cert. of Performance, AmusA , LmusA  (or equivalent)

 

Accompanist

 
As part of the competition fee an accompanist will be provided for all sections. They will not sight read accompaniments on the day of the competition. A rehearsal must be arranged privately prior to the competition day with your allocated accompanist (not included in the competition fee). Applicants will be supplied with accompanist contact details when entries are confirmed to facilitate a rehearsal.
 
Performers are also welcome to engage their own accompanist if they wish.
 

 

Performance Time

Please note that each session runs from 9am - 12pm however all applicants will be assigned a one hour time slot between 9am and 12pm for their performance on this day.
