Mark Leibler AC is a pre-eminent tax lawyer and corporate strategist, having advised many of Australia’s most successful business leaders. Mark is also known and admired for his strong commitment to Jewish affairs, social justice, and Indigenous rights and reconciliation. He served for over a decade as co-Chair of Reconciliation Australia and, more recently, as co-Chair of the Expert Panel on Constitutional Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and the subsequent Referendum Council, which reported in June 2017.
Mark has worked to foster strong bi-lateral relations between Australia and Israel at all levels of government, as well as through trade, diplomacy and culture. In 2014, he was named by the Jerusalem Post as one of the 50 most influential Jews in the world. He currently serves as National Chairman of the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council, is a member of the executive of the Jewish Agency for Israel and a Governor of Tel Aviv University.
Since April 2017, he has been a member of the governing council of the University of Melbourne. Mark's service to the nation was recognised in 2005 with his appointment as a Companion of the Order of Australia, in acknowledgment of his service to business, to the law, particularly in the areas of taxation and commercial law, to the Jewish community internationally and in Australia, and to reconciliation and the promotion of understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
The Hon. Chief Justice Wayne Martin AC was appointed to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in May 2006. He was appointed as a Judge of the Court, a Judge of the Court of Appeal and as the Hon. Chief Justice of Western Australia. Hon. Chief Justice Martin was appointed a Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia on 11 June 2012. This will be one of his final public appearances as Hon. Chief Justice.
