Measuring for Window Coverings Masterclass for Designers - S
learn to successfully measure for window coverings:
Please read carefully before booking
We are quite aware that there is no longer anyone teaching how to measure for curtains in Sydney or Melbourne... Maybe even Australia! Unless you decide to install blinds or shutters for a large firm that has their own training program (most don’t!), there is no one to guide or teach these skills. As a result, the future of window coverings seems bleak as many upcoming Interior Designers will have to rely on installers and suppliers to measure for them.
Many workrooms are full of products that have to be altered or remade due to incorrect measuring. This is unproductive, expensive and unprofessional.Window coverings are complicated products, and can be daunting, complex and downright scary to the untrained. Case in point; even the seemingly simple s-fold curtain comes with a whole set of things to look out for and unfortunately, although they are specified by Designers frequently, are only possible in a limited number of situations.
Not all windows are created equal, and neither are the tastes of your clients. Your client may want a window treatment that looks simple but may be difficult (and sometimes not possible) to supply for their particular window. Clients also often require multiple window treatment products on a single window or intricate designs using delicate, heavy or 'prone-to-movement' fabrics… hence the skill to measure correctly is vital.
Learning to measure accurately will eliminate the need to have windows check measured by an installer, giving you greater control over the entire process, from design, supply and install, and saving you the cost of a check measure every time.
Because of our ability to accurately measure even the most awkward of windows, More Than Curtains have been the preferred suppliers to some of Sydney’s leading Interior Designers for over 20 years!!! However, we also see a huge need for a training program that will equip Designers with enough knowledge to tackle most curtain scenarios on their own, but also having an experienced person in the background to smooth out the issues as required.
Lucia van Gerwen of More Than Curtains has been in the window furnishings industry since 1989, but she was thrust into her first decorating role without any training whatsoever… her initial mistakes cost the company thousands of dollars! However, being determined, Lucia soon learned the tricks of the trade by aligning herself with experienced industry professionals, until she became an industry professional herself.
Lucia spends a lot of time researching new products and looking at what her window covering colleagues are doing around the world. Lucia is also the ONLY dedicated window coverings blogger in NSW, and that puts her at the forefront of her field!!!
Lucia also has a Bachelor of Education, which gives her the qualifications to teach. Graduating from Sydney Teachers College with high distinctions, you can be assured that Lucia will be able to impart her knowledge in an informative manner that will benefit your business directly. Always interjected with humour and hands on learning, Lucia’s style will make understanding this complicated topic much easier.
This unique course will give you the basic tools you need to start selling window coverings, or at the very least, have some knowledge to impart to your clients that will be certain to impress them!!! You’ll be given specific examples and plenty of information on curtains, blinds, pelmets, tracks, rods and motorisation. Nowhere else will you get this type of education that is targeted to your business and skill level. Rest assured, we will always have your back to support you.
Tickets are tax deductible
