Sparks of Beauty in Literature
A conversation with best-selling author Michael McGirr

Great stories can be life-changing. They can feed your hungry mind and take your heart on a journey. Join us for an evening with Australian author Michael McGirr, as he takes us on a journey through stories-some ancient, some new-that have changed his life.

Michael McGirr is the dean of faith at St Kevin’s College, a large Edmund Rice school in Melbourne. He is the author of many books including Snooze: the Lost Art of Sleep (Text Publishing), Bypass: The Story of a Road (Picador), Things You Get for Free (Scribe) and Finding God’s Traces (Jesuit Communications). Michael has written fiction and non-fiction for numerous publications both in Australia and overseas, including The New York Times. He has reviewed almost one thousand books for The Age, the Sydney Morning Herald, The Canberra Times and Australian Book Review. His latest work, Books That Saved My Life (Text Publishing) is about the sheer joy of living, exploring forty texts that can enrich us in all manner of ways.

In dialogue with speakers from a variety of fields—art, science, music, literature, sport — the Sparks of Beauty series seeks to encourage a new imagining to Catholic spirituality in 21st century Australia.
