The Launceston Church Grammar School is delighted to offer all students in the greater Launceston area the opportunity to participate in our Maths Club as a part of our Community Outreach Programmes for 2018.
Mathematics plays an increasingly important part of the world we live in. Though Mathematics is often perceived as essentially repetitive and algorithmic, this view is not shared by practising mathematicians.
At its core, mathematics is a creative and artistic discipline. In our Mathematics Club, we will be exploring topics such as Group Theory (the study of symmetry), Probability (the study of chance) and Chaos Theory. These topics provide an ideal context for students to discover the inherent beauty in mathematics, and to develop an aesthetic appreciation for the beauty of number, geometry and logic.
All activities will take place at the Launceston Church Grammar School - Junior Campus Inquiry Centre on Wednesday 31 October and Wednesday 7 November from 4.00pm - 5.30pm.
Afternoon Tea will be provided.
All activities are provided free of charge but bookings are essential.
Spaces are limited to 30 students per session who are currently in Grades 5 or 6.
Wednesday 31 October 2018 from 4.00pm
Wednesday 7 November 2018 from 4.00pm
NB: Students who attend the first session are welcome to come again to the second session - there will be some additional material for these students
