St Kilda Eco-Fest at the Port Phillip Eco-Centre (06315)

Sunday, 20th January 2019 from 2pm to 6pm @ the St Kilda Botanical Gardens & Port Phillip Eco-Centre.
Bring your KeepCup for a free Co-Ground Coffee, or win a free smoothie from Bike n' Blend, there’s even free face paint for the kids! An event for all ages.
Entry is free for the festival for all to enjoy!
The festival will host an array of sustainability sessions including nature walks, beeswax wrap making workshops, global waste talk, jewlery making, yoga & more. Workshops range from FREE - $10. Please register early to avoid disapointment. 

The St Kilda Eco-Festival is an initiative by the City of Port Phillip (CoPP) Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) to encourage CoPP residents and visitors to think about ways to be more sustainable in their lives by using products and materials that are less wasteful and eco-friendly.

Global Waste Warriors Chat with Leftover Lovers: Do you know about edible pest animals abroad? How food waste can feed thousands? And discover how one restaurant is changing their countries food culture from their own kitchen. Learn and meet the food waste warriors that are combating food security globally. A talk inspired by other initiatives and individuals around that world that will lead into a conversation about what we can do in our own backyard to combat food waste. Cost of the chat is only $5 and will take place in the Port Phillip Eco-Centre Meeting Room.

FREE Coffee Scrub Making: Be like Frank (but on a budget)! Learn to make your own coffee scrub from re-purposed coffee grounds from Co-Ground Coffee for an amazing DIY exfoliating and envigorating shower companiton that will help your skin become healthier in appearance and function. All materials will be provided and you can take your coffee scrub home to enjoy! This workshop is FREE and will take place at the YAC Stall in the St Kilda Botanical Gardens.

Bush Tucker with Peter!: Peter is an educator at the Port Phillip Eco-Centre who is very knowledgeable about bush tucker. He regularly gives presentations for us providing tasty experiences for the community. Enjoy some local bush tucker and learn about the native plants of the area. Cost of the workshop is only $10 and will take place outside the Port Phillip Eco-Centre in the alfresco dining area.

Beeswax Wrap making with Zero Waste Victoria: Tired of plastic containers and lunchboxes taking up valuable space in your workbag or backpack? Hate the waste of clingwrap, foil and wrappers? In this fun class you will learn how to make your own beeswax wrap for your lunch, dinner and snacks! We will learn how to make beeswax wrap using organic beeswax and cotton fabric. Bring along an old cotton shirt and we will make your own bespoke and sustainable wrap for you to take home! Cost of the workshop is only $10 and will take place in the Port Phillip Eco-Centre Meeting Room.

FREE Sourdough Culture Making Workshop: Whether it conjures up a crusty, flavorful loaf of bread or a bubbling crock of flour/water starter, sourdough is a treasured part of many bakers' kitchens. But where does the path to sourdough bread begin? Right here, with your own homemade sourdough starter. learn to make a starter to take home and try your luck with your own sourdough! This workshop is FREE and will take place at the YAC Stall in the St Kilda Botanical Gardens.

FREE Yoga in the Gardens (ages 14+): Join Yogabean for an outdoor yoga session to help you feel fit and zen. This is the perfect chance to get back to nature, and yourself. Strictly for ages 14+. Parents are encouraged to register their children for the correspondingly timed Bush walk.

FREE Bush Walk and Minibeasts in the Botanical Gardens (for children): We utilise the indigenous plantings in the SE corner of the gardens and we go on safari as naturalists, exploring the plants and the mini beasts living in this indigenous forest. It is great fun, young people get to be naturalists for 45- to an hour and they learn a little about the wildlife in this urban park. This activity is FREE and will leave from the steps of the Port Phillip EcoCentre.

4:00pm - 5:00pm FREE Bush Walk and Minibeasts in the Botanical Gardens (for children) Open

FREE Recycled Jewelry Making: Learn to make these unique earrings are made from recycled materials such as chip packets, lolly and chocolate wrappers, etc. These materials that normally would be thrown away have now been recycled using all the colours of the rainbow. All materials will be provided and you will be able to take your very own custom earrings home! This workshop is FREE and will take place at the YAC Stall in the St Kilda Botanical Gardens.
