MUSEUM MAKERS

Taxidermy Workshop

Using traditional museum techniques, participants will be guided over two days in how to create their own beautiful bird mount to take home.

The workshop will introduce participants to the process of taxidermy, with step-by-step tuition in how to skin and mount an Indian Mynah bird. These have been ethically sourced respecting Australian native wildlife laws.

All materials will be provided including lunch and refreshments. (please inform any dietary needs in advance).
 

Day One

  • Introduction to taxidermy
  • Safety with scalpels - skinning your bird
  • Basic anatomical sketching
  • Prepare your manikin (the bit that goes inside)

Day Two

  • Clean and preserve the skin
  • Build the internal armature (wires and wings)                    
  • Mount the skin onto the manikin
  • Setting the eyes, form and feathers
