Workshop on Specialist Disability Accommodation in Far North Queensland

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is a new support in the National Disability Insurance Scheme designed to assist people with very high support needs access housing.

Get Building SDA is presenting a free workshop in Cairns to assist housing providers, people with disability, advocates and government officials understand SDA, and to discuss opportunities and challenges in growing SDA in Far North Queensland.

The workshop will:

  • Build understanding of SDA policy and SDA market development through the Summer Foundation’s report Pathway to a Mature Market
  • Share work by the Summer Foundation on SDwwA market demand and supply, including in Far North Queensland
  • Share information about SDA market activities in other jurisdictions (especially Victoria and New South Wales)
  • Discuss opportunities and challenges in Far North Queensland for development of the SDA market

The workshop is presented by Luke Bo’sher, CEO, Summer Foundation. Luke has worked with the Summer Foundation since 2016. He was previously the foundation’s Head of Policy and Strategy, leading the organisation’s work to develop housing for people with disability using NDIS funding. Appointed CEO in April 2018, Luke continues to be responsible for managing relationships with government stakeholders and communicating the findings of Summer Foundation’s work in order to influence government policy in relation to young people living in nursing homes.
