Pastures of the Blue Crane Special Screening

Based on the award-winning young adults 1964 novel by Hesba Fay Brinsmead this groundbreaking 5 part ABC television adaptation has not been seen since its original broadcast in 1969. Starring Jeanie Drynan and Harold Hopkins it evokes the sub-tropical  luxuriance of its Tweed Valley locations and illuminates the then little discussed history of imported Islander labour to plantations of northern NSW and Qld.

Event includes afternoon tea and a Q&A with the director, Tom Jeffrey and film critic, David Stratton.

“Fifty years on, this pioneering achievement of Australian television in general and the ABC in particular is still impressive, not least for the excellent performances of Jeanie Drynan and Harold Hopkins and the assured direction of Tom Jeffrey.”
—David Stratton  2019

Bookings essential.

Screening Sunday 2 June at 12 Midday at Mount Vic Flicks.
