STOPS AND STARTS WITH GRAHAM ABBOTT

[]

                      Starts and Stops

              In these workshops, Graham explores the conductor's dilemmas: how to start and how to stop. How do I set a tempo?

              How can I do it clearly? How do I change a tempo? How do I negotiate pauses? The aim of these sessions is to

              give you sound principles which can apply in any context. Ideally, participants should attend both, as the second

              will build upon the lessons of the first.

                         Be here, and be clear!

FIRST SESSION WEDNESDAY 22 MAY 7.30 -9.00
SECOND SESSION  WEDNESDAY 5TH JUNE 7.30-9.00
The score that will be studied in the first session is Beethoven's First Symhony

a. First movement, bars 1-33;

b. Fourth movement, bars 226-250.

Any standard edition will suffice. The Dover reprint of the old Litolff edition is very clear and the movements are down loadable separately from IMSLP here:

The second session will be based on
