Maria Shell Workshop : Making Prints Out of Solids, Lines, Tracks... and More
Maria has melded her art and sewing skills to create a unique aesthetic principally based on the use of solid fabrics.
Having lived for six years in the remote Alaskan town of Valdez, studying and stitching alone, Maria is now based in Anchorage where she uses vintage and contemporary commercial solid fabrics as well as hand-dyed, cut primarily without a ruler to create her one-of-a-kind quilts.
As a teacher she believes in cultivating original work and creativity in every individual so we are assured an exciting experience!
Using solid coloured quilters cottons, students will learn how to stitch an assortment of pieced prints including stripes, tracks, dots, and grids. While learning these new techniques students will also be given information about selecting a colour palette, improvisational piecing techniques, and ideas for taking these techniques and creating original quilts.
The class will include a gift bag designed to provide some of the relevant class supplies. Any
further requirements will be emailed closer to the workshop date. GJ’s will also be open for last minute purchases on the workshop days with a 10% discount being offered.
When booking your workshop place, you may also purchase a copy of her book "Improv Patchwork: Dynamic Quilts made with Line and Shape" at the special price of $28.
Costs : For MMQG Members, $200 for a two-day workshop, payable in two instalments of $100 each. The second payment is due on Friday 5th July.
